Celebrating Summer - New Works by Linda T. Hubbard

RiverWinds Gallery at 172 Main Street in Beacon presents “Celebrating Summer” featuring photographs by Linda T. Hubbard.   The show is a collection of new works and images never shown before that demonstrate how light showcases the extraordinary and the ordinary parts of life and the world we live in.  The opening reception is July 10, 2010, (RiverWinds' 7th Anniversary and Beacon Second Saturday) 5 - 8 pm. The show will run until August 9, 2010.

“Last year when I fell on ice - smashed my face, broke both wrists and damaged my knees -- I could not hold anything or walk.  It was a long recovery, but the toughest part was not being able to pick up a camera and wander through the landscape to see and capture life.   But now I am seeing through my lens again and loving it.”  Says Hubbard.

Through her camera, Linda sees a different world - one that celebrates life and how light makes the ordinary beautiful and how humans interact with nature's beauty.  She lives in and loves the scenic Hudson Valley - river, mountains, and fields.  Ordinary grass, flowers, and the river's edge as light infuses them can be breathtaking.  In addition, her travel photography throughout New England, Australia and England captures both the unique scenery and ordinary moments of beauty.  “My family has long endured the pause for the camera - my record of life, birthdays, weddings, sunsets or the first ride on the school bus.  Mom has been there with her camera…embarrassing them all and delaying dinner - but recording those special times in one's life.    Life can be very frantic at times, pausing to capture it and the world around us….priceless."

In addition to her photography, Linda is also an arts activist with the Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA) www.beaconarts.org, Art Along the Hudson (AAH) www.artalongthehudson.com, Mill Street Loft (MSL) www.millstreetloft.org and the Dutchess County Tourism www.dutchesstourism.com. Last year she received a special citation award from the Dutchess County Arts Council.

On July 10, RiverWinds Gallery is celebrating its 7th anniversary of featuring the finest Hudson Valley artists: traditional fine art and contemporary crafts including ceramics, pottery, cards, paintings, photography, jewelry, and apparel.  There will be bubbly and a cake from the new Beacon Bakery "Crumb"  plus other goodies.  Fire Dancing by Galina Krasskova will dazzle you when it gets dark!  And for the first 21 customers who purchase $21 or more there will be a free packet of cards - one by each of the three RiverWinds owners – Virginia Donovan, Mary Ann Glass and Linda T. Hubbard.  Come join our anniversary event!

Gallery hours are Wednesday - Monday 12 - 6pm and 9pm on Second Saturday.

Directions: Route 84 exit 11, take Route 9D south, turn left at Main Street. The Gallery is on the left, a block and half East on Main Street.
